A Brief History

Toronto-based Take 5 Productions was founded in 2009 to finance and produce high-quality international television, and quickly established itself as an industry leader. Take 5 is the follow up venture to Dufferin Gate Productions which was successfully sold in 2007. Over the past fifteen years, Take 5 and its predecessor company have produced, serviced or financed over 100 film and television projects.

Since its inception in 2009, the company has co-produced and delivered the final season of the award winning series The Tudors for Showtime and CBC, the first two seasons of The Borgias for Showtime and,Bravo/CTV , the ten-hour series Camelot for Starz and CBC and the eight-hour series World Without End for Tandem and Shaw. In March 2012, Take 5 embarked on its latest major international coproduction, Vikings aired in Canada through Shaw Media and in the US on History. In 2012, Take 5 produced Beauty and the Beast which aires on the The CW in the US and Showcase in Canada. In July 2013, production on Reign began for broadcast on The CW in the US and M3 in Canada.

In addition to their production activities, Take 5 is currently developing an exciting slate of television projects.


John Weber


John Weber began his film and television career in 1995, and has produced and serviced numerous television projects throughout his career. In 2009, Weber founded Take 5 Productions which has quickly become an industry leader in international co-production. Prior to Take 5, Weber was the CEO and controlling shareholder of Dufferin Gate Productions, a Toronto-based production service company which he successfully sold in 2007.

In addition to his services as President of Take 5, Weber is an Executive Producer of The Tudors (Showtime), The Borgias (Showtime), Camelot (Starz), World Without End (Tandem), Vikings (MGM/History), Beauty and the Beast (The CW/CBS) and Reign (The CW/CBS). Weber is also a Professional Accountant with a degree in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Gina Vanni


Prior to joining Take 5, Gina Vanni was Vice-President, Production Finance for Dufferin Gate Productions, where she managed development and financing for the company’s considerable slate of productions.

Previous to that, Gina worked with the Ontario Media Development Corporation in several capacities, including Team Lead in the Tax Credits and Financing Department and Director of Tax Credits, where she oversaw the administration of Ontario’s Film & Television credits. Gina currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre.

Bill Goddard


Bill Goddard began his career at CFTO in the mid 70s. He continued as an editor in the commercial, drama and TV movie genres for the next 25 years.

He worked on some of North America’s biggest series including Friday the 13th, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Forever Knight, Kung-Fu: The Legend Continues and SCTV, earning both Gemini and Emmy nominations for his work.

Bill went on to edit the Pilot for Showtime’s original series, Queer as Folk, and later became a Co-Producer for the groundbreaking show. He continued his passion for high quality Television drama when he became the Executive in Charge of Post Production and Co-Producer for the award winning series, The Tudors.

Four seasons of The Tudors later, Bill is now heading up Take 5 Productions as the Executive in Charge of Post Production overseeing a team of over 25 people.

Bill is currently Co-Producer on both The Borgias and Camelot for Take 5 Productions.
